United Kingdom (UK)-Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (UKNIAF) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have joined forces to enhance Nigerian states’ access to climate finance.

The two organisations are hosting a crucial roundtable workshop aimed at empowering state officials to secure funding for climate-related development projects.

The “Roundtable on State Access to Climate Finance” comes at a pivotal time as Nigeria grapples with the severe impacts of climate change and the pressing need for sustainable financial solutions.

States are at the forefront of responding to climate challenges, making it crucial for them to explore avenues for attracting climate finance to accomplish their development goals.

The roundtable will provide a platform for state commissioners, directors-general, advisors, and other officials to gain insights from UKNIAF’s extensive experience in project development and climate finance strategies.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their own experiences in integrating climate finance with existing priorities and discuss the path to achieving bankability for climate-related projects.

Key topics on the agenda include carbon market financing, strategies for developing bankable projects attractive to climate finance investors, and the opportunities and challenges associated with issuing state-level green bonds.

“This event represents a significant step toward enabling states to effectively attract climate finance for their development needs,” said a joint statement from UKNIAF and NGF.

“By fostering collaboration among states and providing a platform for knowledge sharing, we aim to bolster their capacity to access vital funding sources.”

Supported by the NGF, the workshop underscores the commitment to promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Nigeria.
