The Action Alliance (AA) has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over what it described as the circulation of incorrect information regarding the dates of its last state congresses and national convention.
In a letter addressed to the INEC chairman signed by the party’s national chairman, Barrister Kenneth Udeze and national secretary, Vernimbe A. James, the AA accused the commission’s Election and Party Monitoring Department under the Political Party Monitoring Division of publishing misleading data about the party’s internal electoral timelines.
According to the letter, the Action Alliance duly conducted its elective ward, local government, and state congresses across the country, as well as its national convention between January 2025 and 22nd February 2025.
The party emphasised that these events followed the expiration of the tenure of the former executives and were conducted in accordance with its constitution and INEC guidelines.
The AA further stated that it had earlier notified the commission of the scheduled congresses and convention through a formal letter, which was duly acknowledged.
The party also attached the monitoring report from INEC officials who were present at the national convention held on 22nd February 2025, to support its claim.
Despite these records, the party expressed concern that INEC continues to circulate erroneous dates, which it said could cause confusion and discredit its compliance with electoral procedures.
“The party is disturbed that despite the Commission being fully aware of the correct last dates of our state congresses and national convention, the Election and Party Monitoring Department still released wrong information,” the letter read.
The AA is now demanding an immediate correction by INEC, insisting that the accurate date of its last state congresses is 8th February 2025, while its last national convention was held on 22nd February 2025.
“We demand that the commission should correct the wrong dates to reflect the actual timelines as earlier communicated and monitored,” the party said.
It reaffirmed its commitment to due process and urged the Commission to ensure transparency and accuracy in its public records concerning political party activities.
