The FCT Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has again declared total war against miscreants, vandals and oil thieves and moved to arrest and prosecute them for looting the nation’s capital of its critical assets.
Parading the suspects, the FCT commandant, Mr. Olusola Odumosu, ordered the head of the anti- vandal and intelligence units to within the 48 hours deploy both intelligence and patrols across the nation’s capital to ensure that all items looted by hoodlums are recovered and the perpetrators are arrested.
Odumosu said the corps arrested two persons at Pai in Kwali Area Council of the territory for being in possession of 16 cans of petroleum products suspected to be stolen crude oil and two other persons suspected to have vandalised the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) armoured cables at the premises of the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
He said investigation was in progress to ascertain the source of the products and possibly identify their sponsors.
The commandant further tasked vandals to leave the FCT or face arrest and prosecution, adding that the machinery had been put in place to fish them out and deal with them as economic saboteurs.
He urged members of the public to increase their security consciousness and report any suspicious character or the whereabouts of any of the looted property to the nearest Civil Defence outlets.
Also speaking on the 2023 United Nations International Day of Peace with the theme ‘Action for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals’, Odumosu said the day “Today is a call to action that recognises our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace.
