Eruku: Church, Community Demand Barrack, Weapons For Vigilantes

Following the recent attack by bandits on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Eruku in  Ekiti local government  area of Kwara State, the church and community leaders have demanded the location of a mini military barrack in the border community.

Pastor Lawrence Abiodun Bamidele of the CAC made the appeal during an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP Weekend.

Bamidele said Eruku being the border community between Kwara and Kogi states deserves more security presence.

The cleric said the presence of vast and thick forest landscape within the community and its status as a major link for commercial and trading activities had made the community more prone to bandit attacks.

Bamidele said the community vigilante members were always at alert as far as securing the community was concerned but regretted that the lack of weapons to operate with had incapacitated them.

He pointed out that the location of a mini barrack in the community would complement efforts of vigilante members and ensure adequate security of lives and property.

Bamidele said although the situation in the community remained calm, the absence of the kidnap victims had created tension and anxiety within the community.

He appealed to the government to come to the aid of the community by ensuring that the victims are returned unarmed.
