The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has said it will be intervening in the planned nationwide protests against hardship in the country, in order to ensure the safety of lives and properties of Nigerians.

The world-renowned global peace advocacy group said the ugly outcome of the previous #EndSARS protests, as well as the sad tale of the recent Kenyan protests, should not be allowed to repeat itself in Nigeria.

IAWPA, in a press statement jointly signed by its African Director, Amb. John Metchie, and International Spokesman, Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke, while decrying the current state of the nation’s economy, said Nigerians must explore other options that will help strengthen good governance and security rather than resorting to self-help.

The association stressed that it was not unaware of the sufferings which Nigerians were facing and called on government officials to be patriotic enough to implement policies that will reduce hunger in the land as well as safeguard the lives and properties of citizens.

The International Association Of World Peace Advocates also said that there were better options that can help reduce the sufferings in the country which definitely do not include protests, that will in the long run be hijacked by hoodlums, who do not share the ideology and vision of the organisers of the planned protests.

The association advised the Federal Government to seriously engage Civil Society Groups at this critical time rather than depend on its officials, who at most times, end up sabotaging the efforts of government.

“If there is any time the Federal Government needs the services of established non-governmental groups, this is the time. Holding meetings with state Governors, Ministers and other government appointees might be good, but the most important thing is to engage leaders of civil society. This is what we expect from government,” IAWPA stated.
