To streamline its digital presence and enhance communication, the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has launched its official website on the World Rugby domain: www.nigeria.rugby.
This initiative, spearheaded by the NRFF board under the leadership of Dr. Ademola Are, marks a major milestone in the federation’s efforts to create a unified online platform for rugby in Nigeria.
Historically, the NRFF has faced challenges in maintaining a consistent online presence. Previous administrations have launched multiple websites using different domains such as .com, .org, and .ng.
However, issues arose when these past handlers failed to transfer control of the websites’ control panels at the end of their tenures. This lack of continuity led to the existence of multiple websites and social media handles, causing confusion and a fragmented online identity for the NRFF.
To resolve these issues, the current NRFF board worked diligently over several months to secure permission from World Rugby to use their dedicated .rugby platform. After gaining approval and making the necessary payments, the NRFF now has a more permanent and stable domain, controlled by World Rugby’s servers.
This change ensures that the NRFF’s digital presence is unified, professional, and aligned with global rugby standards.
In addition to launching the new website, the NRFF has also standardized its social media presence for the first time in eight years, maintaining consistent handles across all major platforms. The NRFF’s social media following currently stands at 6.1k followers on Facebook, 4.9k followers on Twitter, and 4.1k followers on Instagram. This consistency helps to strengthen the NRFF’s brand visibility and outreach, engaging a broader audience and fostering a more connected rugby community in Nigeria.
World Rugby introduced the .rugby domain in 2018, aiming to provide a distinctive digital identity for the global rugby community. By adopting this domain, the NRFF is positioning itself within this international framework, highlighting its commitment to aligning with global standards and promoting the growth of rugby in Nigeria.
Dr. Ademola Are, President of the NRFF, expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in making this achievement possible, particularly acknowledging the efforts of Mr. Mohammed Salisu, the federation’s technical representative. “I want to thank everyone who contributed to this success, especially Mr. Mohammed Salisu, our indefatigable technical representative, who worked tirelessly to bring this to reality. I also extend my appreciation to all board members for their unwavering support of our programs,” he stated.
The launch of the new website is seen as a key step in the NRFF’s broader strategy to increase visibility for its activities, engage with stakeholders, and attract new supporters. By consolidating its digital platforms, the NRFF aims to better communicate its initiatives, promote rugby events, and highlight the progress of Nigerian rugby on both a national and international stage.
