Arewa Youths for Peace and Security Group has called on the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to prioritise tackling insecurity, hunger and poverty over political infighting amongst the elite.
The group’s acting leader, Salihu Dantata Mahmud, in a statement, said the recent allegations of corruption among government officials were an unnecessary distraction.
He said, “The common people on the street do not care about which minister diverted funds or who is fighting for power and influence in Aso Rock. They care about putting food on the table and living free from fear.”
He cited the ongoing humanitarian crises in states like Zamfara, Niger and Borno where terrorism and banditry have disrupted farming and led to severe hunger.
“Insecurity remains the top concern for millions of Nigerians.
The government must focus on this rather than getting caught up in political sideshows,” he added.
Mahmud said resources should be directed towards creating jobs, improving security, and building infrastructure to alleviate poverty.
“The masses need to see the dividends of democracy in their everyday lives. Elitist corruption controversies will not reduce the price of food or make people feel safer in their communities,” he noted.
The Arewa youth leader called on the government to be more focused on delivering on its mandate and serving the interests of ordinary Nigerians across the country.
