Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralized 2 terrorists and recovered weapons and motorcycles during an encounter in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The operation was conducted in the early hours of Thursday following credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists conveying hundreds of rustled cattle through the Maikujera general area of Rabah LGA.

This was contained in a statement signed by the media information officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

According to the statement, troops of Sector 2 moved swiftly to intercept the terrorists.

“While advancing towards the identified area, the troops encountered an ambush staged by the terrorists. Troops responded decisively, fought through the ambush with superior firepower and neutralized 2 terrorists, forcing the remaining elements to flee into the surrounding bushes,” the statement said.

A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of 2 AK-47 rifles and 3 motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The statement added that during the firefight, the rustled cattle dispersed into surrounding bushes.

“Efforts are ongoing in conjunction with local vigilantes to locate and recover the livestock,” it said.

Col. Danja said the general area remains calm and stable as troops continue to dominate and maintain vigilance to prevent further terrorist activities.

“Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA remain resolute in sustaining the operational momentum against terrorist and criminal elements while safeguarding lives and property across the Joint Operations Area,” the statement added.

Rabah and other border LGAs in Sokoto have in recent months witnessed increased attacks by bandits and cattle rustlers. Operation FANSAN YAMMA was launched to degrade terrorist networks across the North-west.
