Institut Francais To Host World Music Day Concert June 22

Institute Francais is set to host the World Music Day Concert on Saturday, June 22, at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

Scheduled to perform at the concert are Blackbones Theatre Kompany, Jumiee, Peerayce, Jojo Band, Eskay, Morell, and DJ organized by Pasta promises to provide a delightful expression for guests from the early hours of the evening 7pm, till 11pm.

Commemorated every June 21, the World Music Day was first marked in 1982 in Paris, France, to promote and make music accessible to everyone.

Founded by Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, France, and then Director of Music at the ministry, Maurice Fleuret. Fleuret following the discovery that five million people, that is one out of two young persons in France played a musical instrument, sought for means to bring people out in the streets to celebrate music.

The festival aims to convene both amateur and professional musicians to perform in the streets, and host concerts without pay, in order to make all genres of music available to everyone.

Since its inception, the event has become a global phenomenon with about 700 cities in 120 countries participating holding music events on said day, including Nigeria, India, Germany, Mexico, UK, the USA, among others.
